Courts for Henrico County cases
Henrico County has its own courts, separate from the City of Richmond that it surrounds on three sides.
- Henrico General District Court, 4309 East Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23273. Misdemeanors, traffic and DUI charges, preliminary hearings in felony cases and smaller civil claims.
- Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Custody, visitation and support, juvenile cases, and charges between family or household members.
- Henrico Circuit Court. Felony trials, divorces, larger civil cases and appeals from the district courts.
A Richmond mailing address does not mean a Richmond case. Much of Henrico uses "Richmond, VA" addresses, so check the top of your summons to see whether it says Henrico County or City of Richmond.

- Business and contract law. Breach of contract claims, business disputes and collection of unpaid accounts.
Before your court date
Call as early as you can. Time before the first hearing is used to request the evidence, speak with the other side and prepare. Bring every document you were given, and write down the names of any witnesses while the details are fresh. If the police want to speak with you, you have the right to talk to a lawyer first.
Common questions
My ticket says Richmond, VA. Is my case in Richmond or Henrico?
Look at the court named on the summons, not the street address of the stop. Many Henrico locations have Richmond mailing addresses, but the case is heard in the county where the incident happened.
Can a Chesterfield lawyer take a case in Henrico?
Yes. A Virginia lawyer can appear in any court in the state. The firm is based in Chesterfield and represents clients in Henrico County.
